GOOGLEBOT SIMULATOR
Googlebot simulator: how does Google see your page?
A Googlebot simulator shows a page the way a search crawler reads it, without the design. Digimetrics Google Crawler Simulator takes one page URL and returns the title, description and canonical as Google reads them, the heading outline, the words Google indexes, every link with its status and every image with its alt text. Every tool, this one included, is unlocked free for 7 days, no card.

The short answer
- Google reads your page's code and text, not its design; a Googlebot simulator shows you that view.
- Google Crawler Simulator needs one page URL and returns the title, description, canonical, headings, indexed words, links and images.
- Every link comes back with its status and every image with its alt text, so broken links and missing alt text stand out.
- It is the fastest way to answer “why is Google showing the wrong title?” or “is my content even visible?”.
- Use it on single pages; crawl many pages at once with the Technical SEO Crawler.
WHAT YOU GET BACK
What the simulator shows
- Title, description, canonicalAs Google reads them
- HeadingsThe page outline
- Indexed wordsThe words Google indexes
- LinksEvery link with its status
- ImagesEvery image with its alt text
HOW IT WORKS
How to view a page as Googlebot in three steps
- 1
Paste a page URL
Any page on your site, or a competitor's page you want to understand. That is the only input.
- 2
Read the crawler's view
Title, description and canonical first, then the heading outline, the indexed words, every link with its status and every image with its alt text.
- 3
Fix what Google cannot see
Missing headings, broken links, absent alt text or the wrong canonical: fix them in your CMS, then run the page again to confirm.
How does Google see my page?
As text and code: the title and meta tags, the headings, the words in the body, the links and the images' alt text. Colours, layout and anything Google cannot read are ignored.
That is why a page can look perfect to you and still underperform. If the main content loads in a way the crawler does not pick up, or the headings are styled text rather than real headings, Google sees a thinner page than your visitors do.
Google's own documentation says most Googlebot crawl requests use the mobile crawler, with a minority from the desktop crawler, so what matters is the version of the page Google fetches, not the one on your monitor. The simulator strips the page back to what a crawler records, so you can check it in seconds. Our glossary defines the canonical tag if that term is new.
What a spider simulator reveals that a normal browser hides
The outline, the indexed text and the status of every link. In a browser these are buried in the source code; the simulator lists them plainly.
Here is what each part of the result tells you, and the fix if something is wrong.
| What the simulator shows | What to look for | Typical fix |
|---|---|---|
| Title, description, canonical | Missing, duplicated or pointing to the wrong URL | Edit the page settings in your CMS |
| Headings | No H1, or headings out of order | Use real heading tags, one H1 per page |
| Indexed words | Key content missing from the text Google indexes | Put important text in the page itself, not only in images |
| Links with status | Broken or redirecting links | Update or remove the link |
| Images with alt text | Images with no alt text | Add a short description of each image |
Why use a Googlebot simulator online instead of the source code?
Because it is quicker and it reads the page the way a crawler would, without you having to scan hundreds of lines of HTML.
Checking the source works if you know HTML well. For marketers, business owners and content writers, the simulator puts the answers in a short list. It is also handy when a developer says “it's fine on my end”: you can show exactly what the crawler records.
For Google's own data on how a URL is indexed, use the URL Inspection tool in Search Console, which you can connect to Digimetrics free under Google Search Console. Use the simulator for a quick, readable check of any page, including competitors' pages that you cannot inspect in Search Console.
When to view a page as Googlebot
After a redesign or CMS change, when Google shows the wrong title or description, when a page is not ranking despite good content, and before you launch a new page.
A few common situations, and where to go next:
- Wrong title in Google: check the title and canonical the simulator reports, then fix the page settings.
- Page not ranking: confirm the content is in the indexed words, then compare the page with the top results using On-Page Optimisation.
- Many pages affected: crawl the whole site with the technical SEO audit, which lists issues by severity.
- New site going live: run the website launch checklist for links, SSL, security headers and more.
- AI assistants too: check whether AI crawlers can read the site with the AI visibility checker.
Google Crawler Simulator vs Semrush and Ahrefs for a small business
Big suites show crawler data inside site-wide audits. The simulator gives you a fast, one-page crawler view, and you can try it on the free plan.
If you only need to check how a handful of pages read to Google, a full suite is more than you need. Start with the 7-day free trial, and see our Screaming Frog alternative comparison if you are weighing up desktop crawlers.
Digimetrics makes digital marketing much easier to teach. Instead of just showing students scores and reports, I can explain what the issues mean, why they matter, and how to fix them in a practical way.

What is the best Googlebot simulator in 2026?
One that shows the crawler's view in plain terms: tags, headings, indexed words, links with status and images with alt text. Google Crawler Simulator returns all of these from a single page URL.
Is there a free Googlebot simulator?
You can use it free for 7 days on a new Digimetrics account, with no credit card. Google's URL Inspection tool in Search Console is also free for sites you own.
Does the simulator show exactly what Google indexes?
It shows the page the way a crawler reads it, which is a close guide. Only Google's own URL Inspection tool reports what Google has actually indexed for your URL.
Can I view a competitor's page as Googlebot?
Yes. Enter any public page URL. It is a quick way to see how a competitor structures headings and links on a page that outranks yours.
Why does Google show a different title from mine?
Google may rewrite titles that are missing, duplicated or do not match the page. Check the title and canonical in the simulator, make the title clear and unique, then wait for Google to recrawl.
What is the difference between this and a site crawler?
The simulator looks at one page in detail. A site crawler such as the Technical SEO Crawler follows links across many pages and groups the issues it finds.
