SEO FOR PLUMBERS

SEO for plumbers: be the number they tap when water hits the floor

SEO for plumbers is the work that puts your business in front of people searching “emergency plumber near me” or “water heater replacement” in your service area. Digimetrics shows what is in the way: Local SEO Check compares your site’s name, address and phone with your Google Business Profile, Page Speed Check scores your mobile page from 0 to 100, and AI Mentions Tracker shows whether ChatGPT and Gemini name you.

The short answer

  • Most plumbing searches are urgent and local, so your Google Business Profile, your phone number and your mobile speed matter before anything clever.
  • Local SEO Check confirms Google can read your name, address and phone and that they match your Business Profile, plus map, LocalBusiness schema, service areas and reviews markup.
  • Give each money service (water heaters, drain cleaning, leak detection, repiping) its own page instead of one long services list.
  • AI assistants now answer “who is a good plumber near me” questions; AI Mentions Tracker shows whether they name you and which sites they trust.
  • All three first checks are included in the 7-day free trial, with no card.

What SEO should plumbers do first?

Start where an emergency customer starts: the map results. Make your name, address, phone and hours identical everywhere, complete your Google Business Profile, and make sure your site loads fast with a tap-to-call number at the top.

Google says local results are decided mainly by relevance, distance and prominence, and that complete, accurate business information and reviews help. You cannot move your shop closer to every caller, but you can control the other two.

The most common problem we see on plumbing sites is not exotic. It is a phone number in the header that differs from the one on the Business Profile because of an old call-tracking setup, or a suite number that appears on one and not the other. Local SEO Check finds these in one run. Then match the search to the right page:

SEO keywords for plumbers: how to pick the ones that ring the phone

Pick service-plus-place phrases that describe paid work, such as “sewer line repair Mesa” or “tankless water heater install”, over broad ones like “plumbing tips”.

A homeowner reading “how to unclog a drain” is trying not to call you. A homeowner searching “hydro jetting near me” has already decided to pay someone. Put your effort where the decision has been made.

Run your list through Keyword Analysis. It shows monthly volume, difficulty and CPC for each phrase. CPC is a useful clue for plumbers: where advertisers pay a lot per click, the job is usually worth a lot. Low difficulty plus a decent CPC is where a small shop can win on organic search without outspending anyone.

Write the keyword list the way your dispatcher hears it on the phone. Customers say “my toilet keeps running”, not “toilet fill valve replacement”.

Do plumbers need a page for every town they serve?

Only if each page has something true and specific to say. A service-area page that swaps the town name into identical text helps nobody, and Google treats thin copies as low value.

Good service-area pages read like a plumber wrote them: the jobs you actually do in that town, the kind of housing stock you see there, the neighborhoods you cover, a photo or two from a real job, and reviews from customers who live there.

If you cannot write that for a town yet, list it on a single “areas we serve” page instead. Local SEO Check tells you whether your site lists service areas at all, which matters most for plumbers who work from home and hide their street address on the Business Profile. For the full method, read the local SEO guide.

How much should plumbers spend on SEO?

There is no correct number. Spend what you can measure: know your rankings, map visibility and calls before and after, and keep paying only for work that moves them.

Doing it yourself costs time more than money. Digimetrics Starter is $31 a month billed annually with 3 projects and 25 tracked keywords, which covers a single-location plumbing company tracking its main services across a few towns. The same setup works for most local service businesses.

If you already pay someone for local SEO services for plumbers, keep them, and use the same checks to see the work. Run Local SEO Check and Rank Checker before they start and every month after. A good provider will welcome the evidence; it makes their results easier to show.

  • Do it yourself: you have an hour a week and a list of what to fix.
  • Hire help: you would rather be on jobs, and you want proof each month that it is working.
  • Both: the provider does the work, Digimetrics checks it.

QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK

Frequently asked questions

Still unsure? Email support@digimetrics.ai and a person will reply.

What is the best SEO tool for plumbers?

One that checks local signals, not just page titles. Digimetrics runs Local SEO Check for name, address, phone, map, schema and service areas, Rank Checker by city and mobile, and AI Mentions Tracker for ChatGPT and Gemini, all in one account you can try free for 7 days.

Is my Google Business Profile more important than my website?

For emergency searches the Business Profile often gets the call first, but Google reads your website to judge relevance. They work together, which is why mismatched details between them are worth fixing first.

How do plumbers get more Google reviews?

Ask at the moment the customer is happiest: when the water is back on. Send a direct review link by text that day, and reply to every review, good or bad. Google lists responding to reviews as one of its local ranking tips.

How long does SEO take for a plumbing business?

Fixing profile and site mismatches can show up within weeks; ranking new service pages in a competitive city usually takes months. Time to Rank gives a forecast range for specific keywords based on your site’s authority.

Should plumbers write blog posts?

Only ones that answer questions customers actually ask before calling, such as whether a running toilet wastes water or when to replace a water heater. Link each one to the service page that sells the fix.

Can I use Digimetrics to check my SEO company’s work?

Yes. Track your keywords with Rank Checker and re-run Local SEO Check each month. You will see what changed without needing to read a technical report.

See why the phone is quiet, and what to fix first.
