The short answer
- The one number that ties ad spend to results is cost per conversion (CPA).
- Digimetrics shows the blended CPA for the whole account, then the CPA for each campaign, ad group or ad.
- The gap between a campaign's CPA and the blended CPA is usually where the money leaks.
- Connecting is free and read-only.

HOW IT WORKS
How to check Google Ads performance in three steps
- 1
Connect Google once, read-only
Sign in with the Google account that can see the ad account. Digimetrics reads the numbers and never edits campaigns or bids.
- 2
Pick the account, level and dates
Choose the ad account, then campaign, ad group or ad level, and a date range long enough to include a fair number of conversions.
- 3
Sort by CPA and compare with the blend
Find the campaigns furthest above the account's blended CPA. Those are your first decisions.
Takes about 30 seconds to connect. Included on every plan.
How to measure Google Ads performance: the one number your report needs
A Google Ads report should lead with cost per conversion: total spend divided by conversions. Compare each campaign's CPA with the account's blended CPA to see which ones pull the average up.
Clicks, impressions and CTR tell you whether ads are being seen and clicked. CPA tells you whether they are paying for themselves. That is why the Digimetrics Google Ads dashboard leads with spend, conversions and blended CPA, then breaks CPA down by campaign.
It is a simpler view than the native interface and many Google Ads reporting tools, on purpose. When you only have time to check one thing a week, check this.
What the data tells you: the official sample
In the official tutorial's sample (fictional brand Brightpath), the biggest campaign spent $18,900 at $10.27 a conversion, three times the account average.
That is a common pattern: the campaign that gets the most budget is not always the one that earns it. Before cutting it, ask three questions. Is it sending people to a weak page? Is it bidding on searches with the wrong intent? Is the conversion tracking the same as on the other campaigns?
Digimetrics tools answer each one. The landing page audit scores the page the campaign uses. Keyword research labels the intent and CPC behind each search. If the ads themselves are tired, the ad copy generator writes new headlines and descriptions within Google's character limits.
How to improve Google Ads performance once you know the CPA
Move budget from campaigns well above the blended CPA to those below it, fix the landing pages of expensive campaigns, and re-check the report after enough conversions have come in.
A Google Ads performance report is only useful if it changes where the next dollar goes. For a wider review than one account, run the PPC audit: Performance Marketing Audit returns conservative, recommended and aggressive budget levels and a channel mix across platforms.
- Check weekly, decide monthly. CPA swings day to day; decisions need enough conversions behind them.
- Compare like with like. Use the same date range and the same conversion definition across campaigns.
- Look at the other channels too. Connect Meta Ads for free to compare cost per conversion across platforms.
How do I combine Google Ads with SEO data in one dashboard?
Connect Google Ads, Search Console and GA4 with one Google sign-in and keep them in the same project. Paid cost per conversion, organic clicks and on-site conversions then sit side by side.
The useful question is overlap. If a search converts well in ads, it is a candidate for an organic page, which stops you paying for every click. If a page already ranks on page one for a search, you may not need to bid on it as heavily. The Search Console report shows where you already earn organic clicks; Google Ads shows what those same kinds of searches cost you.
QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK
Frequently asked questions
Still unsure? Email support@digimetrics.ai and a person will reply.
Does connecting Google Ads cost extra?
No. Connecting is free and read-only, and reading your own Google Ads data costs nothing extra on any plan, including the 7-day free trial.
Can Digimetrics change my campaigns or bids?
No. The connection is read-only. You make changes in Google Ads yourself.
What is blended CPA?
Total spend divided by total conversions across the account. It is the benchmark each campaign's cost per conversion is compared against.
How long until Google Ads work?
It depends on budget, competition and how quickly conversions come in. Judge campaigns once they have enough conversions for the CPA to settle, and avoid big changes based on a few days of data.
What is the best tool to analyse Google Ads data with AI?
One that reads your account directly and links the result to a fix. Digimetrics shows CPA by campaign at no extra cost, Monty can explain any number in plain English, and the ad copy, landing page and PPC audit tools act on what you find.
